The only sensor built for what saliva actually hides.

Salivary biomarkers don't exist at blood concentrations. They exist at concentrations a hundred to a thousand times lower — in a matrix saturated with enzymes whose entire purpose is to degrade proteins on contact. This is precisely why no one has achieved non-invasive biomarker diagnostics at clinical accuracy before. Kino was built from first principles to solve both problems simultaneously.

Tri-gate OECT · Directed-evolution nanobodies

Two engineering breakthroughs make Kino possible. First: an Organic Electrochemical Transistor architecture that builds signal amplification into the physics of the device itself — delivering femtomolar sensitivity without a laboratory. Second: nanobody recognition elements selected through multiple rounds of directed evolution to survive the salivary enzymatic activity that destroys conventional antibodies before they can bind.

  • Tri-gate OECT — amplification built into the physics Salivary biomarkers exist at femtomolar to picomolar concentrations — far below the detection threshold of conventional electrochemical sensors. Kino achieves a 100 fM limit of detection; the Organic Electrochemical Transistor doesn't compensate for this in software. It amplifies at the point of transduction: signal gain is intrinsic to the device architecture, not retrofitted afterward. The tri-gate configuration extends this further, enabling simultaneous multi-analyte detection from a single sample without sensitivity loss across channels.
  • Nanobodies evolved for salivary survival Standard antibodies denature in saliva within minutes. Salivary proteases and nucleases actively degrade conventional recognition elements before they can bind their targets — rendering standard immunosensors unreliable in this matrix. Kino uses nanobodies: compact single-domain antibody fragments (≈15 kDa vs. ≈150 kDa for IgG) derived from camelid VHH domains, selected through multiple rounds of directed evolution under conditions that directly challenge salivary enzyme resistance. The result is a recognition element that binds selectively, survives the matrix, and performs consistently across every measurement.

What is Waven Kino and how does it work?+
Kino is a salivary biomarker sensor built on two proprietary technologies. The first is a tri-gate OECT (Organic Electrochemical Transistor) — an architecture that builds signal amplification directly into the physics of the device, achieving femtomolar sensitivity without a laboratory. The second is a set of nanobodies: compact single-domain antibody fragments selected through multiple rounds of directed evolution for resistance to the salivary enzymes that degrade conventional antibodies on contact. Together, they allow Kino to measure biomarkers that exist at concentrations a hundred to a thousand times lower than blood — returning a complete four-dimension Bio-Age panel (Resilience, Metabolic, Vitality, Vascular) from 20μl of saliva in under five minutes. Why saliva? Why not blood?+
Blood has higher biomarker concentrations, which makes detection easier — but that ease comes with barriers that make daily use impossible: lancets, lab visits, scheduling, friction. The diagnostic value of continuous monitoring evaporates if you only test quarterly. Saliva makes frictionless, repeatable, daily measurement realistic. The challenge is that salivary biomarker concentrations are orders of magnitude lower than blood — a problem conventional biosensors cannot solve. Kino's tri-gate OECT was designed specifically for this sensitivity requirement, paired with nanobodies evolved to survive salivary proteolytic activity. The result: clinical-grade accuracy from a 10mm chip you use at home.
